Queen Elizabeth Appoints a New Equerry — and Makes History in the Process!

Congratulations, Major Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah!

When it was announced that Prince Philip is stepping down from his role this autumn to enjoy full-time retirement, the world was in mourning. Seriously though, who else will unveil plaques with such gusto?

But of course, we must take a moment to consider Queen Elizabeth, as she will no longer have her 96-year-old husband to accompany her on royal engagements. Though we needn’t worry, as it seems she has already moved on… by hiring a new equerry!

Her Majesty has chosen Household Cavalry officer Major Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah as her equerry. The 38-year-old Ghanaian-born veteran already making royal family history, as he’s reportedly the monarchy’s first ever black equerry.

It’s hardly surprising the Queen chose him to be by her side, as he boasts an impressive resume. The Household Cavalry officer was employed as the escort commander at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011 before commanding the Blues and Royals at the Queen’s birthday parade.

And Twumasi-Ankrah is thrilled to be taking on the prestigious role. “I would have never imagined that one day I’d command the regiment which I’d fallen in love with. From what I’ve seen in the UK, our cultures really do mix and if I’m not a good example of that I really don’t know what is, he told The Sunday Times.

We can’t agree more!
