An isolated 90-year-old woman who took a leap of faith has gained a new friend, thanks to an emotional note and a big-hearted neighbor.
Marleen Brooks of California returned home one day to find a heartbreaking note scrawled on yellow paper.
“Would you consider to become my friend. I’m 90 years old- live alone. All my friends have passed away. I’m so lonesome and scared. Please I pray for someone,” she wrote, according to KTVU anchor Frank Somerville, who shared the note on his Facebook page this week.
Clearly moved by the message, Brooks indeed visited the woman named Wanda — stopping by with her best friend and some cupcakes.
“She’s such a sweet lady! And she was over the moon when we came over,” Brooks told Somerville.
Brooks also learned a bit about her personal history, including that she is on oxygen and has congestive heart failure, osteoporosis and other ailments. She had three sons, but one died of cancer last year and the other two live far away.
But fortunately Brooks is right nearby, and is excited to keep hanging out with her new pal.
“I also made sure she knew she can call us at anytime and that I’ll be back to spend time with her!” Brooks told Somerville. “I’m sure Wanda and I will have some great times.”
